INSTRUCTOR'S BIO

Director/ Instructor/ Choreographer: Joe Delgado

I was born and raised in Sunset Park Brooklyn and most of my life I grew up listening to the sound of latin music. My parents both hispanic, my mother Dominican and my dad Mexican, I got to listen to both Merengue and Mariachi music alot around the house it taught me to appreciate all types of music. Most of my friends from the neighborhood were Puerto Rican, so they got me to listen to the sweet sound of Salsa music when I was around them. So from an early age I listened to alot latin music and enjoyed all the latin flavor that was in the music.

In school I took up music and learned to play the clarinet, trumpet and also read sheet music. It wasn't until later in life that I went out to a party where I came across a gentleman by the name of "Carlos Vasquez" a.k.a the Big "C", he really caught my attention and when I saw this guy dance Salsa it really impressed me. I asked who this guy was, I had never seen someone move so graceful and be so lite on his feet, it was amazing and see it in front of me, that really left a lasting impression on me. I found out that night Mr.Vasquez was the owner of "La Salsa De Hoy Dance Studio". Which is where I went the next day to sign up and take classes for about nine months.

I had this tough young lady by the name of "Lourdes Mojica" which we nick named her the "Drill Sergent" but she made sure we got our steps together, I thank her very much for drilling me so hard. After attending the dance studio for about 9 months Mr.Vasquez asked if I was interested in teaching classes with him at his studio where he took me under his wing and showed me his unique style of dancing and his charm with the people. There at Mr.Vasquez dance studio is where I taught for about 4 years and finally decided to move on and leave the family of "La Salsa De Hoy". That is why I will forever hold "Carlos Vasquez" and "Lourdes Mojica" in the highest esteem and see them as my mentors, if not for them I would not be dancing today.

My dance experience has allowed me to dance at the "East Coast Congress" in upstate N.Y. "2001", dance at the West Coast Congress" in Hollywood CA. "2002" and "Montreal Congress,Canada. "2002". Was able to teach at "Fordham University" in Manhattan N.Y. for their Latin Club in "Nov.2001" & "2002", "Dowling College" in Long Island N.Y. Sunset Park Bklyn N.Y. for their kids program, "Oceana Luxury Condo's Fitness Center" in Brighton Beach Brooklyn, I also had the honor and privilage to dance and perform with the salsa group "Victor Santos Y La Epoca!", I was invited to perform at "P.S.169" and "P.S.24" both located in Sunset Park Brooklyn for their multi cultural events. I would also like to say thank you to my former dance group and dance partner with which I had a great dance experience with "The Revelation Dancers". In "August 2003" I danced at the "Boriqua Festival" in the Prospect Park Band Shell and Performed on stage with "Hector Tricoche" and also have the privilage to meet "India".
